Books and Bible Studies for the Christian Woman {Grace & Truth #20}

Books. Television. Internet. Music…

Everything we are exposed to impacts us in some way. We might not notice at first, but we can be sure that little by little we develop the kind of thought processes and attitudes displayed in what we read, watch and hear.

Ten great summer books and Bible studies for the Chritian woman.

As Christians, we know we need to be mindful of what we absorb. We are encouraged to renew our minds (Ro. 12:2) and be made new in our attitudes. (Eph. 6:4)

But transforming our minds and attitudes doesn’t just happen. We need to be purposeful in the effort to get htere. We must train ourselves to distiguish good from evil, by the constant exposure to God’s word and sound doctrine.

Our minds are a tool. We have the power to decide whether we are going to sharpen them by devouring truth and biblical wisdom, or let them decay and be swayed by all manner of teachings this world throws at us.

Over the years I have found quite a few books and bible studies that provide biblical wisdom and practical advice for today’s Christian woman. This is not an exhaustive list, but a great place to start or add to your current library.

Ten Great Books and Bible Studies for the Christian Woman

(1) True Woman 201 ~ 10 Elements of Biblical Womanhood Nancy Leigh Demoss

I had the privelege of being on the launch team for this 10 week Bible study. Each week holds five 15 minute lessons that teach solid truth from God’s word. You can use these free weekly videos to watch for yourself or with your group.

(2) True Woman 101: Divine Design: An Eight-Week Study on Biblical Womanhood (True Woman)

This study is a great sister to the study above. It is not necessary to do 101 before 201. Each has a life of their own, but compliment each other. This onealso holds solid teaching on the roles and characteristics of a godly woman.

I found SO much encouragement in this study! Lots of light bulbs went on for me!

(3, 4,5)The Power of a Praying Woman ~ Stormie Omartain

This book revolutionized my ‘why’ when it comes to praying. There is a wonderful personal study guide to go with it as well.

Stormie also has other prayer books and study guides to encourage the Christian woman. Here are a few:

(6-7)For Women Only, Revised and Updated Edition: What You Need to Know About the Inner Lives of Men ~ Shaunti Felhaun

Have you ever wondered how your man’s brain is wired and why he does what he does? This book is loaded with common sense information on what his thought processes are. Then you are given practical advice on how to better encourage him in his everyday walk.

I had lots of light bulbs turned on from this book, too.

Shaunti also has a great book for parents who want a peek inside their child’s minds and thought processes. She also gives practical advice on how to better encourage and equip your child for a godly life.

(8)The Remarkable Women of the Bible: And Their Message for Your Life Today

Elizabeth George wrote a  wonderful book that enccourages excellency in today’s modern woman. She uses stories fo biblical women to teach how God turned their weaknesses inth strengths, sorrows into joys, despair into hope and how you can enjoy God’s miraculous work in your life, too.

Here is the study guide to go with this book, but doesn’t have to be used to glean great wisdom from.

(9) Girls Gone Wise in a World Gone Wild

Mary Kassian has a great balance of speaking grace while still peppered with truth. In this book she uses God’s word to call Christian women to a higher standard, using sound advice and biblical reasoning that is fully applicable in today’s culture.

Here is the study guide and here is the DVD to go with the book. Neither are required to be able to get through the book, but are great to get the most out of the book.

(10)The Excellent Wife: A Biblical Perspective

Martha Peace has written a great Scripurally based, practical book that gives a detailed portrait of a godly wife. She sets the bar high, bu gives great advice and wisdom that demonstrates that by God’s grace, becoming an excellent wife is attainable.

Here is the study guide to go with the book. Again, it isn’t not mandatory to get through the book, but a helpful tool to get the most out of the book.

When we transform our minds by right thinking and being exposed to sound doctrine, we can be sure that we will find true peace. The ind theat passes all understanding. The kind that puts your heart at rest and your soul at ease. Kelsey shared a beautiful article on what peace is, how to find it and how we benefit.

She says ,” God’s peace is something to be sought, but not in the way the world tells you to. True peace comes from a heart seeking alignment to Christ’s.

How to find peace in the midst of daily chaos. The answer might not be what you think.
