Where to Find Your Unfading Worth

If we met at the park and started to chat, what would you tell me about yourself?

We’d exchange names of course, but what else would you share? What defines who you are?

Your marriage . . . or lack of one.

Your children . . . or lack of them.

Your stage in parenting . . . infant, preschool, teen, all of the above and in between, empty nest?

Your job or hobbies.

Your circle of friends.

Those details would all be fascinating, and I’d enjoy hearing about your life’s joys and challenges.

But then I might start to wonder . . . how do you do it? What keeps you going? What gets you through the difficult moments, days, weeks or years?

Because there will be disagreements (and worse) in marriage. The dirty dishes will pile up and the laundry will overflow. The kids will kick and scream and hate you. The bills may come faster than you can manage. Illness may threaten to take you down. A project can fail. A friendship turn sour.

Circumstances can change without notice. Leave you unsure of who you are, how to identify yourself.

If your identity or worth is based solely on your circumstances or what you do or a title you possess, it could be gone in an instant.

When you find your identity in Christ, nothing can change who you are!

If you have been “crucified with Christ” as Galatians 2:20 says, (in other words, your sin has been nailed to the cross with Him and He has given you His righteousness in its place) then the real you isn’t the one I can see and touch. The real you is the one who “lives by the faith of the Son of God.”

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, [fn]he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) God never changes! Neither does who He declares you to be.

Do you know who God declares you to be? How He identifies you regardless of your circumstances, successes or failures?

Consider . . .

  • You are CHOSEN – 2 Thessalonians 2:13
  • You are REDEEMED – Ephesians 1:7
  • You are FORGIVEN – Psalm 103:12
  • You are LOVED – 1 John 4:10
  • You are ACCEPTED – Romans 8:1
  • You are ADOPTED – Galatians 4:7
  • You are BLESSED – Romans 8:32
  • You are VICTORIOUS – 1 Corinthians 15:57

Amazing, right?

Doesn’t matter if it’s a good day or a bad day, THAT is who you are in Christ.

Knowing who you are will affect how you think and act in the midst of each day’s joys and challenges.

Truly understanding those realities will change your life. And Scripture has a lot to say about each one.

If you’d like to study your beautiful identity  more deeply, the following Bible study is for you. “You are…” is a free Bible study that Reveals Your Identity in Christ.

A Bible Study That Reveals Your Identity in Christ

Remember, this study is not based on who I think you should be. It is based on who God says you ARE in Christ. Proverbs 30:5 says, “Every Word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” God’s Word is true. Understanding it’s truth will protect you from believing and succumbing to lies as you face both the joys and challenges of each day.

May God bless you beyond what you can imagine as you soak up the truth of who He has made you.

The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.
They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

Psalm 19:7-11

Understanding our identity is so foundational to who we are and unfortunately so many of us don’t really understand this. I’ve certainly gone through challenges and times of depression because I hadn’t studied it out for myself.

Me too, Lizzy! Abi did a great job putting together this study. I like how she sends us to the Word to read, search and meditate for our selves. That’s where true feeding comes!
