What is Our Problem? {Grace & Truth}

This world is messed up.

I know you’ve thought that same thought.

But, recently I’ve been noticing something. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, wiser (I like to think so) or maybe time has done what it does: let me live life and gain a few nuggets of insight under my belt.

But this is what I’m noticing, inside this messed up world live deeply pained, messed up people.

And I’m one of them.

I have issues. Some self inflicted.

I experience anger. Sometimes I lash out.

I get indignant at people who don’t see things like I do.

I want grace, but I’m not always the first one to extend it to others.

I have an Egypt you might say. I don’t like the things I do, but I keep going back to them, repeating what I wish I wouldn’t do.

Sin is my Egypt.

I love this post from Mary Dolan Flagerty about this very topic. She says we often “We revisit Egypt expecting to find refuge and protection, only to discover that the very thing we flee TO is what we once fled FROM.”

Sound familiar?

What is your Egypt? What do you keep returning to, knowing it is unhealthy and maybe even toxic to you.

We have the power to choose what we are mastered by.

This post from Jennifer reminds us that we shouldn’t “think you’re choosing between having a master and not having one.

You will have a master either way.

Which one will it be?”

I hope you read both these posts. They spoke volumes to me this week.

Fear. That’s what I continue to return to, and I get so irritated with myself for it. I’ve been working through Priscilla Shirer’s Bible study, The Armor of God, recently and it’s helping quite a bit. 🙂
