A Prayer for Myself as A Wife

A Prayer for Myself as A Wife

Father God, thank You for how far You have brought us. You have proven to be faithful, ever present and good. Oh, so good. My heart overflows with praise and thanksgiving for You.

Reflecting on these past years, I am convicted that I haven’t always been the wife You designed me to be or the wife my husband needs. I confess the times I have been disrespectful in words, attitudes and deeds. I see them as You do: sin. Remove any bitterness, selfishness and impatience from my heart. In its place plant ready forgiveness, patience and the willingness to bear all things.

Make me kind, Lord. Make me gentle and good, keeping the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart pleasing to You,(Ps.19:14) for out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.(Luke 6:45)

Make me faithful, Father. Not only in body, but also in word and deed. Make me the kind of wife my husband knows will not do or say anything to degrade or devalue him no matter how I may feel. Renew my mind so that I can judge my words and actions based on Your truth and not just on my feelings. Let my husband know that I will bring him good and not evil all the days of my life.(Pr. 31:11) I know my first and foremost ministry is to my husband. Remind me of this often throughout the day, seeking ways to bless my husband with my body, words and actions.

Transform me, Lord. Remind me to not expect my husband to fill me in ways only You can. Help me lay all expectations at Your feet. Help me accept him the way he is and not try to change him into what I want him to be. At the same time, I release him to You to mold and shape and grow into the man You created him to be: a man so much greater than I could ever hope to make him.

Father, daily work in me to become the wife of my husband’s dreams. One he can love easily, trust fully, laugh with, cry with and grow old with. Make me new; totally transformed, fitting perfectly into the plan You have for his life and our marriage. Amen.

Hi, Judith! Thank you for praying with me for our husbands. We've done a lot of purging in the last 7 years. Part of us wants a rest, but we also know continued growth in Him will make continued purging necessary. Blessings to you! I enjoy your writings, as well!

Thank you,Beth! It's been quite a few years since I read Stormie Omartain's series, but she impacted my prayer life profoundly! Transformed it, in fact. So glad you have the opportunity to read/study through the wife one. A beautiful book indeed!

    Hello Kaylene,
Thanks for the prayer. I read aloud to myself, because everything in this prayer is what I desire to be. I know God is molding me into that wife that my husband needs.

My husband and I been married for 22 years. We have faced many battles. But with God we come through them all.

I love my husband so much, and right now he’s a the point where he’s trying to make a decision. But I believe God is about to open a door that no man can shut. Please pray for my husband and I that we continue to follow the plan God has for our life.

  13. Mrs.I says:

I am reading you prayers daily, but I am trying to read this one every day along with that days prayer.

My Husband & I have been seperated for almost 5 years, but we’re still married & I pray for restoration of our marriage. My Husband is with someone else, but I believe NOTHING is beyond GOD’s power & I have learned to love & forgive them both over the years apart. I just want what I believe is our sacred vows to be remembered & restored in JESUS NAME!

Please pray that our miracle ? is VERY near.

  14. Goldie says:

Your words of prayer flow like a river spring, they are just beautiful. My husband and I have been married 24 years. And to be honest it wasn’t always easy, my husband was in active addition for much of our marriage. But, 10 years ago God delivered him from those demons and called us both into a life of ministry. The last 10 years we have served as Salvation Army Officers (Pastors) and one of my favorite things to do is pray for my husband daily. Your prayers have given me beautiful words to use in my ministry to my husband. Thank you

  15. Amanda says:

This prayer blessed me more than you will ever know. We have been going through a rough patch because of my own insecurities and this prayer is exactly what I have been wanting to pray over our marriage but just could not articulate. Thank you.

  16. Gracey says:

You are such an inspiration! God must have answered my prayers the very moment he directed my path to yours. You are helping so many wives like me in so many ways you cannot imagine. I will pray for my husband and please allow me to use your words too.. He is my strength and yes I will strive to be a better if not the best wife he can ever wish for. Thank you Kaylene for sharing these with all of us.. God bless you in all areas of your life!

  17. Amy says:

Happy Anniversary and congratulations and many more blessings your way! Your prayer for me has touched me so much! I have been through a very rough time close to divorce and this prayer has helped me to have hope, and if not, at least it will make me a better person. I have been married 9 years and it feels as if it is barely hanging on. I forgave him for cheating being flirtatious with other women, which took a lot in me from prayers, and I have tried ways to wonder how I can fix things but have been told it only works from both effort, not just mine alone. However, I know with prayer and God, anything is possible. Thank you so much for this prayer for me to recite for myself toward my husband.

    • Kaylene Yoder says:

I am so sorry for the struggles you face right now, Amy. I am praying for you to feel your Heavenly Father’s love and peace surrounding you as you lean in to His grace and strength.

  18. Sarah says:

So, I was looking for books on praying for my husband, and I stumbled upon your book on Amazon. did more digging and came across your website. praying for myself as his wife is one prayer point I always miss out on. thank you for this. I will be using it in my fast for my husband.

  19. Deborah says:

Loved this prayer i needed this- tears, we were close to divorce. My husband is reluctant to do counseling (too invasive having to face our problems of several emotional affairs.) but we started a marriage class through a church. I feel like I wont be able to resolve my issues with this kind of past without counseling. He dosnt want to hash out the past- just move forward. How can I just move forward ??

    • Kaylene Yoder says:

Praying for you, Deborah. A wise friend once told me that moving forward in forgiveness is not about having to understand all of it. There are many things I can’t grasp yet, so for those things I envision the blood of Jesus covering them. As I heal and process and grow right where I’m at in all my inability to understand, the Lord will bring grace upon grace providing healing for this time until I am capable of dealing with the heartbreaks and pain. But for now, I am simply called to trust that His blood is enough to cover the things that would kill me if I would feel the full weight of them. This is not avoiding or refusing to look at reality. This way of looking at things has allowed me to deal with things and heal emotionally a little at a time until both my husband & I are strong enough to hash out the past. I’m seeing that there is no one big final “hash out”. For us, its smaller moments of “hashing out” as we are capable of dealing with things in healthier ways.

I hope this makes sense and encourages you in some way. I have been praying for you.
