A Prayer for the Choices Your Child Makes

A Prayer for the Choices Your Child Makes

Father, thank You for giving my children sound minds capable of making wise choices. Guide them to make decisions based on Your Word. I pray they would not act or speak in ways they may later regret. Help them refrain from ways that could cause others to question their motives or character.

Father, I pray my children would remain humble and teachable in heart, choosing Your instruction over the ways of the world, seeking wisdom rather than riches. May they listen to advice and sound teaching so they may steer clear of harmful situations.

Lord, interrupt any enticement my children my have to go a shorter, self-advancing route in life. Instead, give them insight to know the better way, followed by the integrity to go it. When life is hard and the road seems dark, remind my children to choose to trust You in the unknown. Help them remain steadfast, using Your Word as their lighthouse, a beacon of hope guiding them through the storms of life.

Father, You have set before us life and death, blessings and curses (Proverbs 19:20-21). May my children always choose life so they may walk blessed before You. May they always be careful how they live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity (Ephesians 5:15-16), making choices consistent to Your Word and their upright character. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Verses to Reflect Upon

Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Proverbs 8:10-11

I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life so that your children may live, and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice and hold fast to Him. Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise. Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:20-21

Be very careful then how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16

As I lay awake waiting for my twin teen sons to come home after a night out with friends, this prayer was perfect. Raising Teens is difficult. I need the Lord to be their guide, the Holy Spirit to move and direct them. Thank you for this prayer because my anxious heart could not find the words tonight.
